![]() Chain letters - manifesting and superstition - universal truths - belief - personal beliefs - limiting beliefs - limited thinking - limited beliefs Chain Letters - what's the truth about their powers? What's the truth about Chain Letters? Will something really bad actually happen if I don't send it to then others? Will something great happen if I do? How should I feel about responding to chain letters? This is a matter of personal belief and whether or not you can maintain your connection while being confronted with a superstition. Superstitions themselves are NEVER true. Nothing outside of ourselves can control our experience unless we give it the power to do so. However, your point of attraction and your ability to maintain your connection can easily be swayed depending on the attention or credibility that you subconsciously/consciously give to these superstitions. In some countries, certain superstitions have become so powerful, documented, and ingrained that it's easier to follow the superstition, maintain a positive vibration by doing so, and be in harmony with a positive experience than to fight the current of the collective consciousness. It's easier to move with the herd than to fight our own "what if?" Certainly in some countries it's better to go along with the superstition than to have to deal with your indoctrinated grandmother's wrath. For example, I'm reading A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry, a novel set in India, that is full of superstitions and their effects on the health, welfare, and happiness of the people. Intrigued, by some of the superstitions, I've read further and discovered for example, that about ten thousand people die from a poisonous snakebite every year in India. One superstition is that tantriks (dancing, ritualistic sort of medicine men/women) cure people of snakebites and according to articles I've read, the tantriks, have a success rate equal to (or better than) that of the allopathic doctors. Of course, if the snake was non poisonous or didn't get a full-fang mouthful of its' victim then naturally the tantrik's cure works easily. Additionally, as the law of Creation would dictate that if the victim BELIEVES "tantriks are the ONLY way to cure me" then this plays a more important role than any scientific evidence of a tantriks real abilities or lack there of. Therefore, the real question is do you BELIEVE something bad will happen if you don't send the chain letter? Do you feel even remotely negative at the thought that it could be true, and if you don't act now you'll regret it later? Do you wonder and slightly fear the repercussions of not acting? The opportunity for growth here would be to recognize whether or not you are doing something with the motivation of fear (negative emotion) or the motivation of love (positive emotion). When we forward (or choose not to forward) a chain letter and we feel positive, then regardless of the documented cases, we will be uplifted naturally. However, when we engage in the circle of fear, and forward (or choose not to forward) an email that swears some ill-fate will come upon us if we do not, then we are placing our power in some wicked outside force that we have no control over and eventually we will become one of the case numbers, even if it isn't this time. It boils down to how do we feel about it? Let me give you another example, there are a few mainstream superstitions running through America that look something like this: "You don't ever want to get sick, if you don't have health insurance! Heaven help the man/woman that gets sick without insurance!" And "I have to have car insurance now! I don't want to get in an accident or get pulled over!" Getting sick doesn't have anything to do with having or not having health insurance. Getting into an auto accident or getting a speeding ticket has nothing to do with having or not having car insurance, alone. However, the feeling of fear from not having the insurance is what could attract the illness or accident to us. For example, if you take away your insurance, would you be afraid to drive? Would you be afraid to go on a trip without health insurance? Would you be afraid of doing certain sports, or other things if your health insurance lapsed? If you currently do not have insurance, do you ever wonder or think about "what if…?" Most of us would answer yes and therefore, we keep insurance. Not because we're superstitious (necessarily) but because if FEELS better to be protected. We gain the peace of mind that comes with the insurance and therefore, it's easier to maintain our connection by owning insurance than to fight the fear of NOT owning insurance. We as a society feel positive when we own insurance and feel vulnerable when we do not. One feels good and therefore is attractive to positive experiences including health and security. The other feels scary, and therefore attracts ill health, traffic violations, and even more serious negative experiences depending on how long or how much we've fretted and worried over the issue. It doesn't matter whether the chain letter or insurance is a superstition. It only matters that we maintain our connection! Therefore, for now, do what FEELS good. Follow your inner guidance that will always lead you to a place that FEELS better. Positive feelings attract positive experiences, always. If for now, it feels best to forward a chain letter, then do it. Keeping in mind that as you grow in awareness, you will grow in your ability to take personal responsibility for all your choices and experiences and will be more deliberate and protective of your power. You will eventually get to a place where giving your power away to ANY external circumstance feels less positive, than guiding your experience from within. The optimal state consists of being so connected to source that we feel the absolute unlimitedness of our birthright and have no need for external securities. This state comes from continually connecting to source, living intentionally, focusing on our inner-being as the one and only source and supply and choosing all of our actions out of love, peace and harmony. In this state, superstitions have NO power over us. I'm working on this! However, in the mean time, I'll be keeping my insurance because it feels better! So, in the end - always do what keeps you connected, and feeling the wellness.
